February 2025 Meeting

  • Holy Spirit Church 608 Farragut Street Pittsburgh, PA, 15209 United States (map)

February is all about fitting a quilted coat pattern to your body.  We’ll compare the upcoming workshop pattern, the Elemental Coat, with the Cashmerette Fairfax and the Grainline Tamarack.  Each pattern’s features will be subject to a pros and cons assessment.  We’ll start with garment patterns and how they are to be read and executed.  We’ll discuss proper measurement taking.  Then we’ll move to why making a muslin might be a hassle but is a good idea when we’re using a quilt top to assemble our coats.  Finally, we’ll look at some examples of poorly-fitted garments, how to identify the problem and talk about potential solutions.  We’re sticking to shoulders, bust, waist/hip and lower back solutions in this program.  The methods to correct poorly-written patterns will not be covered in explicit detail, but WILL be identified and links to the solutions will be provided.  This program’s handout will be available Friday, January 31, 2025, to print out for note-taking.  If you are looking at sewing a quilt coat pattern that is not one of three listed and have questions, please send it to Programs before January 20, 2025, to be added to the presentation.
